I was actually looking at the code for that again recently to see about getting it to act more like the modular version. The hardware-based one is a bit crazier since it’s a couple of Fourses and some kind of bizarre “intersexon” where they interact with each other, not to mention the hundreds of pins for intermodulation, but the eurorack one is more digestible (I think).

There’s four triangle waves that bounce off each other, with a variable rate (although I think it’s a bounce/bounds thing, and not just a frequency thing), with CV control over the rate. And then the upper and lower bounce for each oscillator can be isolated and controlled independently.

An obvious but overlooked thing with this approach is the added latency of going into the computer, back out to the modular, and back in again.

I normally use 64/64 for my vector settings and that gets me going just fine, but this was feeling real laggy and mushy (especially now that I’m used to mega onset detection), but I realized that hybrid shit like this has 4(?)x the amount of latency involved because of the round trip, especially if you’re listening back via the computer again.

I’ve cranked shit down to 32/32 (the lowest my MOTU can go) and that feels tolerable. I guess that’s equivalent to 128 normally, which is higher than I would like, but manageable.

I suppose I could also use the “real-time” audio through for the RME (and I think MOTU has a similar thing), but I’ve always avoided uses soundcard-specific functions since I often use different soundcards when performing.

ok for the alpha tester of the 2nd tooldbox I’ve done a knn and a mlp version of the patch! It is a bit less efficient for pitch but has a few interesting features. It is an upgrade from the one in the distro.

After the most recent geek-out, I’m wondering if you (@spluta) could say a bit more about how you’re analyzing and creating the descriptor space in the first stage of your instrument?

Like literally incrementing each parameter, letting it run a bit, creating some summary stats on that window (throwing out start/end frames?), and attaching that set of descriptors/stats to that set of synth parameters?
