FluCoMa patches don't open, no error message

Hello,

I’m on a pretty powerful msi, windows 11 and Max Version 8.6.4.

I’m a conservatory student that did some lessons on FluCoMa and wanted to review the patches that we did in class, but when I tried to open them they didn’t open at all.
No error message in the console, nor a window, nothing.
My teacher sent me the patches corrected by him and I tried to open them too but it didn’t work either.

The weird thing is that I can use FluCoMa objects with no problem and if I patched something new I’m pretty sure it would work fine.

My classmates and my teacher have no problem with them, so I really have no idea what is happening.

I would upload the patches but it looks like the site doesn’t let me do it since I’m a new user.

Hi @Theseus and welcome,

That sounds really weird. If the objects are working ok in general and you can open the help patches (?), the only thing that springs immediately to mind is that perhaps something strange has happened with how those particular patches have saved their coordinates or something. Do you ever use a secondary monitor?

I don’t think you can attach a .maxpat file but you might be able to zip them up and attach them. If that doesn’t work, I’ll DM you.

I can open the help patch fine.
I also uninstalled and installed again Flucoma and made sure the objects weren’t orange, everything is fine except that these patches just don’t open.
This computer that I’m using is pretty recent, I bought it last year and since then these patches don’t work, I also don’t remember using another screen other than the laptop’s one.
I just remember that on my previous computer I could open them just fine.

Even if I zip the patches together it doesn’t let me attach them to the post unfortunately, still a new user.

No problems opening them here either!

I looked at the JSON for the patches – the keys setting their locations / size aren’t doing anything silly (which was a hunch), and there doesn’t seem to be anything untoward in the rest of the files.

Now I’m wondering if it’s Max being screwy. Have you tried the standard Max-is-being-screwy remedy of trashing your Max preferences?

Sorry for answering late,

What are these standard remedies? Never heard of them.
If you can send me a link on the steps to follow I’ll do them and update.

Here are Cycling’s instructions:

Hello, I’m back for updates.

So, yesterday I tried to reset my Max installation, but it still didn’t work.
I then tried to open the same patches in my old computer to see if it was my new computer’s fault, but it seems these patches couldn’t open there either. This was weird, I was sure I could open them in the old computer previously, so I tried something else.

I just took off the patches from the folder in wich I put them in the entire academic year and, surprise, I could open them in both the old and new laptop.

So, good news I guess?
Still don’t know what caused this, I didn’t change admin privileges for this folder.

Thanks for the update and I’m glad you managed to get them to open. Does sound weird – I guess if the original folder was a onedrive or similar, I could see how weirdness might happen.
